Solenoid cash drawer plugged into your thermal printer

A solenoid cash drawer can be plugged into the back of the thermal printer and will ping the drawer open after a sale is complete.

  1. Plug the RJ12 connector cable (the one that looks similar to a phone line) from the cash drawer into the receipt printer.
  2. If two cash drawers are sharing the same thermal printer, a splitter cable is required (this must be ordered from your hardware supplier).
  3. Open the Machine settings screen under the System tab, and select Printer Drawer #1 from the Cash Drawer droplist (if you are using a splitter cable, you will also need to specify printer drawer #2)
  4. Test the cash drawer using the No Sale button in POS to trigger the till to open.
  5. If neither work, either the cash drawer is not plugged in correctly, or there is something wrong with the cable(s), or the cash drawer is not the correct one for the printers.

USB cash drawers

If you wish to share a thermal printer between more than 2 PC's, you need a cash drawer with a USB connection so it can plug directly into the PC. Alternatively, the VPOS Model 317 External Trigger Module which can be purchased through a POS hardware supplier is designed to provide USB interfacing to solenoid based cash drawers. This allows cash drawers, previously attached to POS printers and cash registers, to be connected to a USB port. To configure IBIS to open a USB cash drawer:

  1. Ensure your USB cash drawer is plugged into the PC.
  2. In IBIS, open the Machine settings screen under the System menu.
  3. From the Cash drawer droplist, select USB Drawer Kicker.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. Click No Sale from the POS menu to confirm the cash drawer opens.
