Set up gift voucher items to sell online

To sell your gift voucher items online, you will need to configure the items as described below:

  1. Open the Gift voucher item screen under the Point of Sale menu and find the item you would like to sell online.
  2. Open the Online properties tab.
  3. Enable the Sell online property (tick).
  4. Add an Online name (if you don't want the Item description to display on your website). If you are selling dollar value gift vouchers, we recommend you type the full amount name e.g. One hundred dollars.
  5. Add an Online description to explain more about the gift voucher item if required. This could include information about how long it's valid, etc.
  6. Specify a list order. This is important to make sure your items appear in the correct order on the E-Commerce page.
  7. Save your changes.


Grouping gift voucher items for online sales

The E-commerce website will automatically group items under "Gift Vouchers." However, if you have many gift vouchers to sell, you should group them into particular categories to help streamline the selection process. Keep in mind that items can belong to multiple online retail groups. 


To create an Item group, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Retail groups screen under Online Groups in the System menu.
  2. Click Add, then fill in the details as prompted.
  3. Enter a group code - this must not contain any spaces and must not be more than 10 characters long. It can be included in a URL to link through from your main web page. An example might be ‘BodyBath’
  4. Enter a group name. This is the name your customers see and can be up to 50 characters long and can be changed after you have set it up. E.g. Body and bath.
  5. The Description explains what is in the group to your customers. It can be up to 2000 characters, but we recommend keeping it brief and to the point. This can be edited later under the Details tab.
  6. Click Save – the group will appear in the grid.
  7. To associate items with the online group, highlight your group and tick the Selection box for each item. Items are organised by their groups set up in the Gift voucher items screen.  

  8. Save your changes.

  9. If this online item group will be used on your E-Commerce website, we recommend you upload an image to display on the group tile.



Dynamic gift vouchers for reservation products

Dynamic gift vouchers for reservations are where the customer can choose a reservation product, and select the options and add-ons they would like to purchase but instead of carrying on with the booking, they can choose to Buy as a gift voucher instead.


Even though a date and time have been selected in the purchase process, deciding to buy it as a gift voucher does NOT book a reservation. We recommend you specify this on your dynamic Gift Voucher template.



Set up dynamic gift vouchers

  • In the Gift voucher item screen, create a new generic gift voucher item for reservation products.  E.g. Reservation gift voucher. 
  • Open the System settings on IBIS Online and enter the gift voucher item PLU code you just set up under the Default PLU codes in the Reservation gift voucher PLU box. If you don't have access to this screen contact help@ibis.co.nz and we will set it up for you. 



  • You will need to ensure your gift voucher template is configured for dynamic reservations. You may need to set up a separate design or update your existing template to include some extra fields required for dynamic gift vouchers. See our article on Gift Voucher template setup.

    The extra fields required are: 
    • Product name
    • Option summary (e.g. 2x Adult, 1x Child)
    • Value

      IBIS does not currently support product specific gift voucher templates for dynamic vouchers

Redeem gift vouchers online

Customers can redeem gift vouchers online by adding products to their cart and entering the voucher reference number in the Redeem voucher field.


Gift voucher redemption can be configured in one of two ways:

  1. Partial redemption enabled
    Customers can redeem part of the voucher value. Any remaining balance is retained and can be used on a future booking.

  2. Full redemption only
    Customers must redeem the entire voucher value in a single transaction.

Checkout flow

  • If the voucher reduces the cart balance to $0, the customer completes their personal details and skips the credit card payment step.

  • If an outstanding balance remains after voucher redemption, the customer pays only the outstanding amount.

  • If partial redemption is enabled, any remaining voucher balance is kept for future use.

  • If full redemption only is enabled, and there is a balance remaining, the voucher cannot be redeemed online. The customer will be prompted to add more products or contact the operator.


Set up requirements

  • Products must be set to Sell Online to allow voucher redemption.

  • This applies to original and reissued gift vouchers.

Contact IBIS Support to enable gift voucher redemption and configure partial or full redemption settings.





Customise the gift voucher item page on your E-Commerce website

You can customise the background graphic on your E-Commerce page so it looks more in keeping with your brand. Please note that you cannot have a different background image per voucher. 


If you want to add a logo to your voucher template artwork, they should be centered at the top or bottom of the graphic, as otherwise, they may not dynamically resize properly across devices.
